"Channel C" : Sri Lanka's first 24 hour Sinhala Language Music Channel

Sri Lanka's first 24 Hour Sinhala Language Music Channel is expected to commence broadcasting on the Dialog TV platform from March 1st 2008.

This channel operated by Torana called "Channel C" is presently available on Dialog Mobile TV and is the first in Sri Lanka to follow the format adopted by international channels such as Music Television. It also becomes the second locally operated pay channel after "CiTi HiTz".

"Channel C" is expected to revolutionize the music industry in Sri Lanka and would become a stepping stone for budding young singers who want to take their music beyond radio and onto the television screens.

Hopefully this channel would eventually be available on other pay television platforms in the country after the initial contract with Dialog TV expires and would also be broadcast to pay television operators overseas for the benefit of the expatriates.

New Tamil Language FM channel on test

Test transmissions have begun for a brand new Tamil language FM channel on FM 99.6 from yesterday.

Information about this channel such as who is in charge of the operations, location of broadcast, etc are not available as yet.

It looks like our FM radio bands will be over crowded soon and the only way to prevent congestion is to move into digital. It is a pity that none of the operators have shown any interest into moving into a digital platform.

Art TV messes up Prison Break again

For the second week in a row Art Television have messed up the broadcast of Prison Break Season 2. Last week without much publicity Prison Break Season 2 commenced to the surprise of many viewers and now this week Art TV changed the schedule without giving due publicity. Season 1 of Prison Break commenced at 9:30pm every Monday and was repeated every Wednesday at 10:30PM. Last week Prison Break Season 2 commenced at 9:30pm (not sure of the repeat time) but yesterday the time was shifted to 9pm. Art TV should give due proper publicity regarding the change and this could have been done during last weeks programme.

According to unconfirmed sources the repeat would be at 10pm every Wednesday. Art TV programmes manager should make sure that changes are properly communicated to the viewers. It is a shame that a television station is unable to properly promote its own programmes. It looks like by trying to become first in this region to telecast Season 2 Art TV have got the basics of broadcasting totally wrong. It is best for Art TV to halt the entire Season and restart it again from next week by giving proper publicity.

Sponsors of Prison Break Season 2 and Management of Art TV please take note.

Ctv launches on TNL TV

Ceylinco Group has launched a new channel named "Ctv" which operates via TNL TV during the morning hours. Transmissions commenced this morning after a brief opening ceremony. This channel is expected to telecast teledrama's, etc.

We are not sure of the operation times of this channel since from 6:30am to 10am TNL has been telecasting TNL's Esira Radio Station and from 2pm to 4:30pm they telecast "The Buddhist" television channel. So at present it looks like Ctv will be in operation between 10am to 2pm or things may change with the removal of one or both of the above broadcasts.

Updated @ 10:35AM
According to informed it seems that TNL TV will be telecasting Ctv for a period of two months after which they will expand the transmission time of TNL TV.
